I made my own vegan shoes and I want to share with you my experience

Last month I took my first practical step in the world of vegan footwear, something that I had been investigating for a long time and I wanted to work on it with my own hands.

My experience took place in the Green Shoes workshop, in Moretonhampsted, England. The workshop is in an old church and the team, with Alison at the front, is very kind and patient.

Stencils and parts of the boots

The first was to choose the model on which I was going to work, I chose boots and two colors of the same range for their different parts. They work with leather or lorica, which is an Italian material similar to leather but vegan and high quality, I chose this option.

These are the tools needed to outline the stencil and lower the edges.

I am working on the edges

It took me a little to lower the edges, in this material is not easy.

Sewing in zigzag the heels

We started sewing the part of the heel in zigzag to give it more consistency.

Sewing the outlines

We proceed to sew the contours, we must be very careful to make the finish good.

Joining the different parts of the boots

The pieces are joined with a little of glue and then through the sewing machine. This type of footwear is sewn directly to the sole with the help of another machine.

The boots almost finished

Here you can see the boots almost finished after giving them shape with the lashes, only need to sand and paste the rest of the sole. We had already ran out of the planned time so the boots were left in the workshop and when they were ready they sent them to me by mail.

I must say that the course was very interesting and also a challenge, it made me understand the complex process of handmade shoes. But the most important thing is that it left me the desire to go deeper, so these are the first shoes I have done but will not be the last.
